Recently, I spoke to a woman who said that she was a dedicated Wiccan had not practiced in years. Why? Because she had not done rituals.
This is my thoughts. Rituals can be a wonderful and powerful thing, but they do not make me Pagan or what most of my practice is. My most constant ritual is when it is raining to go to my covered porch and sit on my swing, and just mediate and fell the engery of the rain.
Rain is very spirtualy important to me and I have a strong connect to thunder and lightening. I find the sound of thunder oddly comforting.
What does it mean to be Pagan? It you asked seven Pagans, you would likely get fourteen answers.
To me Paganism is about the Earth and your connection to its energies and using the energies to further your spiritual development.
I have not done a spell in years and do not feel the need for them. To me meditation and studying is far more important.
During a meditation it occured to me that I was not taking care of myself or doing my best to take care of the Earth so I did a pledge in order to dedicate myself to a healthy life and earth.
Place your hands over the pentacle
My body which the earth spent countless generations nuturing and molding, I swear to honor with good actions and thoughts to strengthen me in the name of the Goddess and God.
As to honor the earth ,the home of life, for this body I swear to do my part to keep the Earth for those who come after me to see.
Pick up the chalice
As to honor the oceans ,the birth place of all life, I swear to do all within in my power to keep it clean and pure for those who come after me to drink from and for the children of the ocean to live and love in.
Pick up incense or wand
As to honor the air, the maintainer of all life, I swear to do all within my power to keep it living and pure for those to take in who come after me and for the earth and all her mighty oceans.
Pick up candle or Athame
As to honor the Flame, the energry of all life, I will all within my power to keep it’s power from ruling more than is rightful to and return it to it’s rightful power.
Now keep hands in lap or by sides
My body and the earth are connected through the spirit, along with the oceans, the airs, and the sun. Let all the human race find balance through this
(This is a rather simple ritual)
Find an outside place and sit up an altar, I am just using the basic ritual tools for this.
Cast a circle.
All hail the sun, as he reaches his peak and brings the Earth to her full bounty.
Oh, Great Sun light my path and bring bounty to my spirit.
let the Earth and all her children rejoice in the warmth and nourishment you have given to us.
All hail the Green man, who roams, protects, and understands the Earth and all her creatures remind us of our lost bound to the Earth and nature. Humans are not separate from nature, but a part of it
Mediate a bit, before banishing the circle.
Now use a grounding mediation as you walk around the earth. Visual your feet as roots and that you are connect to the Earth and all around you as you walk, slowly and listen.
Now, go home and cook something, give part of it as an offering.
Feel free to use it or take inspiration from it.
By the power of fire, I separate this space from the realm of man.
By the might of air, I separate this space from the realm of man.
By the strength of earth, I separate this space from the realm of man.
By the rule of water, I separate this space from the realm of man.
Through the spirit of all the circle is cast and is separated from the realm of man.
I thank the elements and all the deties who gathered with me tonight.
By the power of fire, this space is returned to the realm of man.
By the might of air, this space is returned to the realm of man.
By the strength of earth, this space is returned to the realm of man.
By the rule of water, this space is returned to the realm of man.
This space now belongs to the realm of man, but my spirit is not. The circle is always in my spirit
